UES Students Watch Butterflies Take Flight
Each year, Union Elementary STEM and Demonstration School students release hundreds of monarch butterflies during the school's annual butterfly launch. The event is a school-wide celebration where students in kindergarten through fifth grade learn about the monarch butterfly through a variety of different music, art and STEM exercises.
Students harvested the butterflies, tagged them and will now track their journey as they begin a 1,600-mile migration to Mexico. The entire journey takes about one month to complete.
The school continued to pay tribute to 45-year teaching veteran, David Collins, who passed away last year. Collins is the school's former STEM teacher and creator of the butterfly launch. A group of students dedicated to STEM projects around the school are named Collins crew and helped lead the butterfly launch today. Collins' wife, Carolyn Collins, was in attendance for the festivities.

North Sumner Elementary Ribbon Cutting
Nothing stacks up to starting your own Little Free Library. North Sumner Elementary educators have been working hard to promote a love of reading. Today, the school celebrated the opening of their Little Free Library with a ribbon cutting and welcomed community stakeholders and parents.
The Little Free Library is a free spot where anyone can bring a book or take a book. There are no library cards or check-out desks. Special thanks to Title One Teacher Mrs. Rogers and Librarian Ms. Meador for bringing the library to fruition.
Special Olympics Bowling
Students got things rolling this morning with Sumner County Special Olympics. More than 200 students met at Hendersonville Strike and Spare along with teachers, assistants and peer buddies to bowl some frames.
Thank you to Station Camp High School Teachers Jill Gregory and Kristina Young for organizing and leading today's event. Also, thank you to Sumner County Transportation Department. The logistics of morning bus routes with an event is no easy feat, especially during a shortage. Thank you to all of our teachers, assistants, peer buddies and staff members. We appreciate you!
