It is with a heavy heart that we announce District 9 School Board member Pat Brown passed away this morning.
Mrs. Brown has served as the District 9 School Board member since 2014. Mrs. Brown retired from SCS in 2002 after more a 30-year career as an educator. In her career, Mrs. Brown served as a classroom teacher as well as nine years as the principal of E.B. Wilson High School.
“Pat Brown spent her life as an advocate for education in Sumner County,” Sumner County Director of Schools Dr. Del Phillips said. “She had a special passion for students who needed a bit of extra encouragement to be successful in the classroom. She was always focused on what was best for the students. She will be greatly missed.”
“Pat Brown brought a unique perspective from a veteran educator and a passion for the Gallatin community to our School Board,” Sumner County School Board Chairman Tim Brewer said. “The Sumner County Board of Education and Sumner County Schools mourns her loss with the entire Gallatin community. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Brown’s family.”
In light of this tragic loss of Mrs. Brown, the January 17, 2023, Sumner County Board of Education meeting has been canceled. The meeting will be rescheduled at a later date.
