More than 1.3 million students entered the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT, NMSQT), which serves as an initial screen of program entrants. To become a finalist, these students and a high school official submitted a detailed scholarship application, in which they provided information about their academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. As finalists, students are eligible to compete for Merit Scholarships, which will be awarded from March through June.
Station Camp High School Renames Football Stadium in Honor of Principal Art Crook
After two decades of dedication, Station Camp High School’s football stadium has been officially renamed Art Crook Stadium, a surprise organized by the school’s staff to celebrate their principal as he prepares for retirement.
A true Bison at heart, Crook has never missed a football game in his 20 years as principal, always standing on the sidelines in support of his students, athletes, and community. To mark the occasion, the entire Station Camp staff showed their appreciation by wearing Tennessee Vols gear—Crook’s favorite team. They added another surprise last Friday by sporting matching shirts featuring a picture of him from his early teaching days at Beech High School, where he began his career.
With more than three decades as a teacher and principal, Crook’s impact on Sumner County Schools is immeasurable. As he looks ahead to retirement at the end of this school year, Art Crook Stadium will stand as a testament to his leadership, commitment, and the lasting influence he has had on Station Camp.
We are grateful for Mr. Crook’s dedication and wish him all the best in his well-earned retirement!/span>
Sumner County Schools Director Dr. Scott Langford Steps into the Classroom as a Teacher for the Day
Jack Anderson Elementary students got a new teacher this morning. At 6'6" he towered over our youngest learners. Dr. Langford loves staying connected with what's going on in our classrooms, so today he's stepping into the Kindergarten shoes! He’s experiencing firsthand what it’s like on the other side, getting a feel for the learning, fun, and yes, even the chaos that comes with it. It’s all about understanding the classroom experience from every angle!
Rumor has it, the biggest challenge wasn’t the ABCs, but snack time negotiations. It’s all in a day’s work making our students #SumnerReady!
Dr. Langford is a former teacher, assistant principal, principal, and chief academic officer. He taught AP English Literature, AP U.S. History, American Literature, American History, Economics, World Geography, and World History.
