Sumner County Schools TEACH Sumner Program: THRIVE

Are you wanting to become a special education or elementary school teacher? TEACH Sumner is partnering with Austin Peay State University (APSU) to offer a licensure program to prepare candidates with the necessary knowledge and skills to be successful in the classroom. A requirement of the program is that you are hired as a job embedded fulltime teacher of record, in Sumner County Schools.

Requirements for entry to the program can found on the APSU website linked below. This is not a degree completion program, and you will need to have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, a minimum 2.75 undergraduate GPA, and a passed Praxis exam (if degree is not sufficient).

Application Process

  1. Please complete this non-binding Interest Survey if you want to be considered for the upcoming school year’s cohort. We will contact you with further information.
  2. APPLY for the TEACH Sumner program through the Sumner County Schools (SCS) job board.
  3. Set up a program interview.
  4. You will be interviewed for entry into this TEACH Sumner program. Please bring all the documentation that will be outlined in your invite email.
  5. If accepted into the TEACH Sumner THRIVE program, Apply for admission to APSU.
  6. Please apply for open positions in your content area with Sumner County Schools.
  7. You may not start employment with SCS until you have been awarded a teaching license in TNCOMPASS and have completed all SCS HR onboarding.
