Sumner County Schools

On Saturday February 3rd, the Sumner County Academic League for Middle Schools held their 3rd Annual Sumner County Championship Tournament at Gallatin High School.   

The 15 team league was made up of teams from T.W. Hunter, Westmoreland, Hawkins, Shafer, Rucker-Stewart, Merrol Hyde and Portland West Middle Schools.   

These teams played a 15 game regular season and had the A-team from Rucker-Stewart Middle School heading into the County Tournament as the top ranked team after completing a perfect 15-0 regular season.   

The County Championship Tournament was also won by Rucker-Stewart’s A team, who completed the tournament with a 7-0 record for the day.  Getting 2nd place honors in the tournament was the A-team from Merrol Hyde Magnet School.  3rd place went to Shafer’s A-team and 4th was awarded to the A-team from T.W. Hunter.  

Making the All-County Team for the League were: The Most Improved Players for their improvements during the Leauge play were:

  • From Merrol Hyde: Hattie Martinek and James Han
  • From Shafer: Jacob Graves and Jarley Granados
  • From Hunter: Morgan Negus and Gideon Sobek
  • From Westmoreland: Jacob Smith and Maylee Lassiter
  • From Portland West: Jakob Young and Hannah Cecil
  • From Hawkins:  Lindsey Buckner and Carlos Gil
  • Rucker-Stewart: Parker Rosenblatt
  • Merrol Hyde: Colin Francel
  • Shafer:  Brooke Swallows
  • Hunter: Zoe Dickens 
  • Westmoreland: Jacob Smith
  • Portland West: Mickaela Sandlin
  • Hawkins: Caleb Braswell
